Im morgendlichen Küstennebel fuhren wir weiter nach Süden. Natürlich durfte unser Kaffee nicht fehlen. Also machten wir halt bei einem Dunkin Donuts. Weiter fuhren wir vom Bundestaat New England über Rhode Island bis nach Connecticut. Dazwischen überquerten wir die längste Hängebrücke von New England, die Claiborne Peel Newport Bridge mit einer Länge von rund 3400m und einer Höhe von ca. 66m. Etwa 20 Meilen weiter noch die Jamesttown Verrazzano Bridge. Gegen 10.30 Uhr erreichten wir den Ferry Port von New London. Mit der Autofähre ging es dann in knapp 90 Minuten nach Orient Point, ein kleiner Ort auf Long Island. Auch hier auf Long Island scheint das Wetter schon seit Tagen nicht besser zu werden. Zwar kein Regen aber bedeckter Himmel bei etwa 13 Grad brrrr…. Kann ja nur besser kommen. Nach rund zwei Stunden erreichten wir den nördlichsten Punkt von Long Island mit sein tollen Leuchtturm. Hier im Norden in Montauk hatten wir unser Motel.

In the early morning coastal mist, we headed off south. Stopping off for coffee at a Dunkin Donuts. Continuing on out of New England into Rhode Island and on to Connecticut. Somewhere along the way we crossed the longest suspension bridge in New England. The Clairborne Peel Newport Bridge is 3,400 m long and 66 m high, and about 15 miles on over the James Town Verrazzano Bridge. At about 10:30 we arrived at New London Ferry port. A 90-minute ferry cruise took us to Orient Point on Long Island. Unfortunately the weather was not much better here. At least it wasn’t raining but the skies were cloudy and only about 13C. It can only get better! After about 2 hours’ drive we reached the northern tip of the island and it’s pretty light house. We stayed here in Montauk overnight.
