Heute war mal wirklich unser autofreier Tag. Wir sind kein Meter gefahren, denn wir unternahmen alles mit der Metro. Die Karte zum Preis von $1, die man laden konnte. Für eine Tageskarte musste man $7 laden und dann stand uns das ganze Metronetz zur Verfügung. Nach einem Frühstück in einem Starbucks, fuhren wir in die Stadt Los Angeles. Wir haben Tickets gebucht um vom US Bank Tower (Skyspace) die Aussicht über LA zu geniessen. Obschon der Tower 310m hoch war, konnte man den Schriftzug von Hollywood nicht gut sehen da es sehr dunstig war. Weiter mit der Metro ging es zur Union Station und weiter zum kleinen mexikanischen Stadtteil El Pueblo. Weiter gingen wir zu Fuss in den Stadtteil Civic Center. Hier ist die LA City Hall, welcher ebenfalls einen Aussichtpunkt bot, aber gratis war. Kurz durch die Kontrollen, ein Visitor Ausweis am T-Shirt anbringen und schon ging mit dem Lift zum 27 Stock. Hier im Gebiet machten wir Mittag mit einem chinesischen Gericht – mmhhhhh…. Nach dem Mittag besuchten wir noch den Grand Central Market. Hier gab es viele Essstände durch alle Kulturen. Auch wurde Carol hier endlich fündig. Sie wollte schon lange eine echten guten Cheese Cake. Ja..ja..der hatte ihr wirklich geschmeckt und mir auch ;-) Anschliessend beschlossen wir, ebenfalls mit der Metro, nach Santa Monica zu fahren. Die Fahrt dauerte knapp eine Stunde. Wow.. hatte es da viele Leute am Pier. Später ging es dann wieder zurück nach LA, denn unser Tickets für den US Bank Tower wo wir am Morgen waren, hatten auch Gültigkeit für den Abend. Hier oben hatten wir einen tollen Blick über Los Angeles bei Sonnenuntergang. Später noch was kleines essen in der Grand Central Market und mit der Metro zurück zum Motel in Hollywood.

Our penultimate day in the States. We spent the day without driving an inch! For $1 you can buy a TIP card which you can charge with a day pass which costs $7. This allows unlimited travel on the Metro (trains and buses) until 3.00am the following morning. After a Starbucks breakfast we took the metro train into the city. We had bought tickets to go up the Skyspace tower which is 310m high and offers good views over LA depending of course on how bad the fog is. Today was not very clear. The tower opens at 10.00am and we were the first to go up this morning. We even had the lift to ourselves. Our ticket was valid for 2 times within 24 hours so we planned to come back for sunset. Returning to ground level we took another train up to Union Station. From here we set off on foot to explore El Pueblo the old mexican part of the city and onto the LA City Hall in the Civic Center. Here you can take the lift upto the 27th floor for free and admire the views over the city. Of course there is the obligatory security screening and you have to present ID to get the required to visitors pass. After lunch we carried on on foot to the Grand Central Market which is full of food stalls. We then strolled a while round downtown before deciding to take the train to Santa Monica. This took almost 1 hour each way. We walked to the end of the pier and spent sometime enjoying the sea air. Returning to LA we again went up the Skyspace Tower to enjoy the sunset. After something to eat we returned to our motel in Hollywood.
