Hochzeitstag :-)

Today was to be a day without driving or at least not much. After breakfast a 5 minute drive took us to the Pima Air & Space Museum. There are about 300 airplanes exhibited here and across the road on the military base 4000 in the boneyard. We arrived early as we the tours were limited. The museum opens at 9.00am and by 9.05am we had secured our tickets for the entrance and the tram ride plus a ticket for the boneyard tour. The tram tour took us round all the exhibitions and we had a good commentary from the driver who was a veteran who had flown some of the planes and in the museum. After the tram tour we had time to visit the hangars and take a closer look at some of the aircraft such as the B52s and a new Dream Liner. It was a fairly quiet day with relatively few visitors. After lunch we took the bus for the boneyard trip. After security checks as we entered the Davis-Monthan air force base our bus took us to the boneyard where over 4000 planes are waiting to be repaired, used for parts or scrapped. The trip took about 90 minutes including the security checks. It was unfortunately difficult to take many photos as it had started to rain. It was however very impressive to see all the machines and learn something of their history. In the evening we enjoyed a good dinner to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
