Heute stand die Fahrt nach Kingston, die Hauptstadt Jamaikas auf dem Programm. Nach dem wir unsere Sachen im Auto verstaut hatten fuhren wir los. Als wir die Hauptstrasse Montego Bay nach Kingston erreichten, mussten wir feststellen, dass auch diese mit vielen Schlaglöchern versehen war. In der Nähe von Mandeville ist der Mud Lake mit der rostig-roten Bauxiterde. Natürlich machten wir am Mittag halt bei einer Imbissbude am Strassenrand. Hier wird alles frisch zubereitet, was dann auch etwas mehr Wartezeit beanspruchte. Doch es lohnt sich, denn es ist sehr gut und sehr günstig. Fried Chicken mit Reis und Bohnen und dies für umgerechnet sechs schweizer Franken für beide! Weiter ging die Fahrt durch Old Harbour mit dem grossen Zeitturm und Spanish Town. Auf dem Nelson Mandella Highway erreichten wir dann unser Hotel in Kingston.

After breakfast on the patio we headed off on the road to Kingston. We drove through Bamboo Avenue for the fourth time (3 times in the same direction!) This is supposed to be the main route from Montego Bay to Kingston but the road has as many potholes as the side roads! The only difference was the volume of traffic and the number of lorries. We passed through Mandeville and saw the red mud lake that comes from the mining of Bauxite which is used to produce aluminium. From Mandeville we drove through Old Harbour and Spanish Town which used to be the capital until 1872. From here the road improved and we arrived in Kingston on the Nelson Mandela Highway. After checking into our hotel we went on the search for coffee which is apparently not the done thing here but we persuaded the hotel restaurant otherwise!
