Am heutigen Tag machten wir uns zu Fuss durch Washington DC. Vom Motel aus erst mit der Metro zum Capitol. Es ist imposanter als man es immer in den Nachrichten sieht. Es gibt viele Monumente und Museen zu besichtigen. Mit den Museen haben wir es nicht so und liessen sie deshalb auch weg. Speziell war, dass wir bis ca. fünf Meter ans Weissen Haus kamen, der Wohnsitz der US-Präsidenten. Grund war, dass es im Frühling zwei Tage gibt, an denen man den Garten des Weissen Hauses besichtigen kann. Weiter war wir beim Lincoln, Arlington und Iwo Jima Memorial. Anschliessend mit der Metro zum Pentagon, wo es seit zwei Jahren ein Memorial gibt zum Gedenken an die Opfer des 11. September. In Georgestown genossen wir ein gutes Nachtessen und zum Schluss schossen wir noch die letzten Fotos „Capitol by Night“. Es waren bestimmt ein paar Kilometer heute zu Fuss, so dass wir dann heute auch gut schlafen werden.

Washington DC a very impressive City with many amazing buildings. We took the Metro into the center and from there walked and walked and walked. First stop Capitol then all the way down the Mall to the Washington Monument and the White House where we were surprised to get a free ticket to visit the gardens. This happens 2 days in spring and this year happened to be the 9th and 10th of April! Never thought we’d get that close to the White House. After lunch it was on to the Lincoln Monument and further on to the Arlington Cemetry and Iwo Jima Memorial. We took the Metro to the Pentagon where there is another memorial to the 9/11 terror act. We headed back to Georgetown for a well earned real american steak and a couple of beers.
